Mewn Dwyfoldeb

February 2023

Black and white double 8mm film with digitally embedded audio

02:28 minutes

'Mewn Dwyfoldeb' is an experimental attempt to contrive aspects of my psycho-geographic relationship to Cymru. Referencing iconographies of Welsh cultural and historical

memory through inherited objects. The audio sounds a poem written and recited by me, and the absence of translation positions questions around the universal demarcations

of language and the damage a native culture can undergo as a result of langauge suppression. This piece of moving-image utilises the quality of analogue film to shift between

particular historical events from Edward I’s conquest of Wales in 1277 to the Anglisising use of the Welsh Not in the 19th Century.

This moving-image is a potential debate between sanctity and oppression.
